Our first weekend back in the UK was spent in Cornwall. We travelled down on Friday via Beck and Jason's to the south west tip near Land's End. Months ago we arranged tickets to see Macbeth at the Minack theatre - little did we realise it would be bitterly cold with a howling wind blowing in from the sea!
After driving for 8 hours we rocked up at the hotel, checked in and changed into some warm clothes ready for the evening performance. Beck kindly prepared a great picnic, which after going for a walk and waiting around for a bit we ate in our seats before the performance.
Whilst undoubtably a beautiful setting and lovely in the summer, as the sun dropped so did the temperature and we quickly were forced to don extra coats and blankets to protect ourselves from the heat sapping wind.

Unfortunately our appreciation of the play seemed also to be affected by the chill as it was difficult for us to follow and keep up with the plot (some chap was killed, another then became king, someone else was killed, someone was was full of regrets...)
Reluctantly during the interval after an hour and a half sitting outside on a hard stone seat carved out of an exposed Cornish cliff face tired and in plunging temperatures we decided to call it a day and packed up and headed back to the warmth of the hotel for a couple of drinks and some much appreciated sleep.
The following day a change of plan meant we all headed back through Cornwall to meet my mum and go to the Eden project. I'd never been before and it was more interesting than I'd expected, with something for everyone.

Due to the cancelled party, Jax came back to Padstow with my mum and I. In the evening we heard about exceptionally high spring tides which were meant to be so high, they would cover Padstow's harbour wall. Not wanting to miss this, we went into Padstow and waited for the sea to rise.
To cap off an interesting day we had fish and chips at Rik Stein's fish shop in Padstow. Despite being expensive (£8 for cod and chips) it was actually very good - all the chips were fried in traditional beef dripping for extra taste. Jax had her fish grilled, a couple of oysters and a glass of champagne with her meal, which made her reasonably happy.
